mainly music

Our focus for this is Thursday morning mainly music. Hillsborough Baptist Church is the founding group of mainly music throughout the world, as our very own Jo Hood launched it from her home church here.

We pack 45 parents and around 70 children into the hall, for half an hour moving to music. Our presenters are skilled and it is a strong group with a waiting list. We regularly separate the 4 year old into another room for more complex activities to stretch them and prepare them for school. Coffee and home-made calories are a feature of mm which is gratefully consumed by busy mums. 

The main emphasis of mm is not the music session though. That focus is reserved for developing friendships, and offering support, affirmation and encouragement into the complexities and challenges of parenting. We want our parents to know they are doing the most important job in the world, and sometimes we more than they themselves can notice and affirm the positive parenting they do. We also can offer advice and tools for improvement when there are struggles.

Our fabulous team of volunteers go the extra mile in welcoming and affirming parents and children, and frequently offer prayer to a person sharing a burden or a struggle. We want to be a light in the spiritual darkness of this community, and demonstrate the love of God to people. 

mm parents are our primary target group for strengthening families in our community and often sign up for parenting courses, caf��s family nights and perhaps on into Alpha courses. What we have learned is that people need time and space to make the journey to faith, and we need copious volumes of love and patience along the way. It�s a privilege indeed to walk with them. God keeps on bringing us the most marvelous people to talk to. Because our community is strongly multi-cultural, that is also reflected in our mm families. We are collecting handouts about Christian events in a variety of languages to make available.
