Sunday Kid's Programs

Our children's Sunday programmes begin each week at the beginning of the service. If parents wish to take their children into the Service for a while, they are welcome to do so, taking them off to their designated area when the child is ready. The children's ministry areas are called hbt, (Hillsborough Baptist toddlers) hbj (Hillsborough Baptist juniors), and hbk (Hillsborough Baptist Kids.) hbt is for 0-3 years, hbj is for 3-5 years and hbk is for primary age children.

In hbt and hbj, which operates in the pre-school on site, we have teams of parents and responsible teenagers on a roster, and each week there are 4 people running the programme. We emphasise caring relationships and ensuring the children are safe and happy.

Hbt is unstructured, with a craft activity for the 2 years olds, music, stories, morning tea and plenty of play. We currently have an average of 10 children attending.

Hbj runs in a more structured way, with a weekly lesson and craft, music, stories, games and free activity. The current average number is 11.

Hbk operates in the hall downstairs. We use the Promiseland curriculum, and supplement it with other material as needed. 35 children is our current average number, including school years 1-6. Teaching and music is conducted in the whole group, and application of the lesson takes place in small groups, divided along gender and age.

In hbk we have a mix of adults and teenagers involved as leaders. Most of the adult leaders team teach with another adult, and therefore can attend church on alternate weeks. This is important to ensure they remain connected to the main congregation, and are spiritually refreshed through the corporate life of the Church.

Some of the components we highly value in hbk are music, fun, relationship, creativity, participation and discipleship. We want to grow passionate followers of Jesus, at whatever age people are.
